After the September 18 Incident in 1931, Zhao Yiman (played by Shi Lianxing) was appointed by the Party committee as the secretary of the Harbin General Trade Union. Together with Lao Cao (played by Zhang Ping), she led the anti-Japanese strike movement of the workers at the tram factory. Not long after, Lao Cao was arrested and sacrificed his life. In 1934, Zhao was appointed as a member of the Zhuhe County Committee of the Communist Party of China and the secretary of the Tiebei District Committee, organizing volunteer soldiers
