After the September 18 Incident in 1931, Zhao Yiman (played by Shi Lianxing) was appointed by the Party committee as the secretary of the Harbin General Trade Union. Together with Lao Cao (played by Zhang Ping), she led the anti-Japanese strike movement of the workers at the tram factory. Not long after, Lao Cao was arrested and sacrificed his life. In 1934, Zhao was appointed as a member of the Zhuhe County Committee of the Communist Party of China and the secretary of the Tiebei District Committee. He organized the Volunteer Army to carry out guerrilla warfare against the Japanese invaders. In autumn, the farmers' Self-Defense Force led by her joined forces with the anti-Japanese troops commanded by Captain Wang (played by Wang Yan). When the news came that the Red Army had reached northern Shaanxi during the Long March, the troops held a celebration and gathering. Unexpectedly, the camp was surrounded by the Japanese.
