The film tells the story of Caiyun, a minor star of the county troupe, who travels to Shanghai in search of her "star dream". After Caiyun moved in with her childhood friend, Awei, who worked as a photography assistant, in Shanghai, she suddenly realized that Shanghai was such a ever-changing world, and Awei could only live in a house that was about to be demolished. The dream has become out of reach, but under the influence of the idealistic director Pan, Ah Wei is shooting documentaries about the veteran filmmakers Zhao Dan and Huang Zongying.
