Chinese woman Zhen (played by Cheng Pei-pei) and her son Kai (played by Andrew Leung) rely on each other for survival and migrate from Phnom Penh, Cambodia to London, UK. Not knowing English, she has always relied on her son as her eyes and ears. Her son is everything to her. However, she had no idea about Kay's sexual orientation and even long believed that Kay and his cohabiting Briton Richard (played by Ben Whishaw) were just "roommates". After Kay died in a car accident, the helpless Jane had no choice but to start getting in touch with Richard and began to browse through the unknown pictures of her son before his death. An old man and a young man face the life of losing a beloved one together - even if they can't communicate in words. "Gently Shaking" was jointly invested and produced by the British Microwave Film Fund and the BBC. It is the first feature film of Asian director Hsu Tai-feng. It successfully combines LGBTQ + emotions with immigration stories. The delicate and subtle interactions among the actors give the gentle and flowing scenes and plot full tension and vivid interest. "Gently Shaking" won the Best Cinematography Award at the 2014 Sundance International Film Festival.[Collapse]
