The young and handsome American soldier Barry (played by Troy Garity) meets a beautiful dancer at a strip club. His companions encourage Barry to strike up a conversation to see if it's a man or a woman. Barry chatted with the other party very gentlemanly and didn't reveal his comrade's lewd bet at the same time, thus winning the favor of this transgender dancer named Adams (played by Lee Pace). The two who fell in love at first sight began to date and felt very happy. Barry's roommate, Fisher (played by Shawn Hatosy), was extremely jealous and constantly provoked trouble. Eventually, he incited the new recruit to cruelly end Barry's 22-year-old life with a baseball bat. July 4th was the Independence Day of the United States. Adams was shining brightly at the celebration party, while Barry had already collapsed in a pool of blood at his residence in a foreign place. When Adams, the champion, learned of Barry's death, he was so grief-stricken that he couldn't even stand. He bent down and curled up into a ball, weeping in despair, as if every part of his body that left the pali mark was permeated with the pain of being cut and tortured...... This film is based on a true story and tells the shocking tragedy of an American soldier who fell in love with a transgender dancer and was brutally beaten by his comrades. Directed by Oscar-winning Frank Pearson, it was nominated for the Golden Globe Award for Best Miniseries, the Emmy Award for Best Director, and the American Independent Spirit Award for Best Actor and Best Supporting Actor, among others.[Collapse]
