In Madrid, Spain during Franco's reign, the girl Anna (played by Ana Torrent) and her two sisters were adopted and raised by their aunt after the death of their military officer father, Ansermo. Ansermo was a womanizing person during his lifetime. His mother, Maria (played by Geraldine Chaplin), gave up her career for him and ended up suffering in a lonely and depressed life. Died early. Memories of her mother would from time to time surface in Anna's mind, and these memories, mixed with her fantasies about death, gradually influenced her real life. The three sisters were not well-behaved under their aunt's care. The aunt was getting involved in a relationship with a married comrade of Ansemo, and Anna's behavior made her feel even more threatened. Anna tried to help her grandmother, who was unable to take care of herself, commit suicide with a bottle of so-called poison, but that bottle was just soda. The grandmother refused to take the poison, and Anna then turned her target to her aunt... This film won numerous awards, including the Grand Prix of the Jury at the 1976 Cannes Film Festival.[Collapse]
