The story takes place in a rural area of France in the 16th century. Martin (played by Bernard-Pierre Donnadieu) is a man who idls away his time all day long. One day, He suddenly abandoned his wife Bertrand (played by Nathalie Baye) and their two lovely children, and has been missing ever since. Seven years have passed in the blink of an eye. Martin has neither shown up, nor has Bertrand received any news of his death. Just like his sudden disappearance, Martin reappeared one day. Martin told Bertrand that over the years he had been assisting the King of France in his campaigns both north and south.
