Huang Kun, a Chinese-American, and "Old Black", an African American, are both police officers in San Francisco. Huang Kun was highly skilled in martial arts and had a fierce personality, thus he was called the Yellow-Faced Tiger. One day, Lao Hei was dismissed by his superior Newman for committing a crime against a local hooligan and encountering an ambush. Huang Kun, eager to save his friend, killed one of the hooligans. As a result, he was sentenced to one year in prison. After serving his sentence, Huang Kun had frequent contact with Lao Hei. One night, Lao Hei was killed while chasing bank robbers in the backyard of the local overseas Chinese Zhu family. The next morning, Newman arrested the Zhu couple and was forced by the agents to sign a plea agreement. Huang Kun was furious that his confidant had been killed.
