George (played by Montgomery Clift) is a child from a poor family. Full of ambition, he travels a long distance to a big city to seek refuge with his uncle, hoping to achieve great things there. In the factory, George met a female worker named Alice (played by Shelley Winters), and it wasn't long before the two got together. The appearance of Angela (played by Elizabeth Taylor), a rich girl, disrupted George's peaceful life.
