The story takes place in Paris in 1890. Henry (played by Jose Ferrer) is a painter. He often shows up at the Moulin Rouge. While others are immersed in the dazzling lights and the luxurious pleasures of life, Henry is just concentrating on painting. By chance, Henry met a woman named Mary (played by Colette Marchand). After helping her out of danger, Henry was charmed by the beautiful and cheerful Mary. As time went by, Henry discovered Mary's capriciousness and untrustworthiness. A passionate heart gradually cooled down amid repeated hurt. Finally, Henry's painting career took off, and the advertisement he painted for the Moulin Rouge received attention and recognition from the outside world. Later, Henry met the kind and hardworking landlady again. Although he had a good impression of her, Henry, whose feelings had been deeply hurt, chose to keep his feelings to himself until the landlady became someone else's bride.[Collapse]
