Zhang Meili (played by Ni Ping) had her husband shot for breaking the law out of ignorance many years ago and lost their child a few years later. She was well aware of the consequences of lacking education, so Meili became a teacher in the village, teaching all the children knowledge. Xia Yu (played by Yuan Quan), a teacher from the city, came to this remote and poor area to volunteer. Her arrival brought a lot of fresh knowledge and hope to Zhang Meili and the children.
