During the Zhenguan period of the Tang Dynasty, a rebellion broke out in Xiliang. Li Shimin led his troops in person and was besieged in Suoyang City by the enemy commander Su Baotong. The commander, Xue Rengui, was also killed by Su Baotong's poisoned sword and was on the brink of death. Xue Dingshan, the son of Xue Rengui, upon learning of his father's death, joined the Second Army to quell the rebellion and headed west to rescue his father. Along the way, Xue Dingshan subdued the bandit Dou Yihu, fought a fierce battle against Su Baotong, and eventually rescued Xue Rengui and Li Shimin from Suoyang City. When Li Shimin returned to the capital with his troops, he left the Xue father and son to continue suppressing the rebellion. Su Baotong brought in reinforcements and sent his general Fan Hong to challenge him. Fan Lihua, the daughter of Fan Hong, fell in love with Xue Dingshan at first sight and was willing to fall out with her family and dedicate herself to Xue. Xue Dingshan, however, believed the flattery and mistakenly thought that Fan Lihua was an unjust person who had killed her father and brother. He then drove Fan Lihua out of the Tang camp. Later, with the mediation and assistance of Cheng Yaojin and others, the touching story of "Three divorces and Three Invitations to Fan Lihua" unfolded. After several ups and downs, Xue Dingshan and Fan Lihua finally got married. With their joint efforts, the Tang army finally quelled the rebellion in Xiliang.[Collapse]
